History of Cornish Rex breed

Corning Rex makes the impression of a sophisticated aristocrat. Although the word "Royal" ("Rex") is present in the name of the breed, its origin, in fact, is not an aristocratic. The first kitten with a wavy, like a doodle, wool, was born in the UK, or rather — in County Cornwall, on a rabbit farm located near the village Bodmin Moore. History even kept the exact date of this event for us — July 21, 1950.

Serena, the ordinary cat of the turtle color gave birth to a litter, which consisted of four ordinary kittens and one extravagant, red with white color and with curly coat, resembling the structure of the doodle. Nina Ennismore, mistress of Serena, called this cat, and it was the boy, the Kallibunker.

No one else knew that the cat was born, from which a new breed of cats will occur.

Kallibunker grows and everything was also very different from his brothers: they were squat and chunky, and this thin and tall, with a short and curly wool.

Deciding that the unusual appearance of the kitten is a consequence of the disease, Ennismore suffered him to a veterinary doctor for castration.

If it were not for this doctor who, by coincidence, was well understood in genetics and loved cats very much, the Cornish Rex could not be any history at all. Seeing an unusual kitten, the veterinarian suggested that the extraordinary appearance of the kitten is associated with some rare mutation. He dismissed the mistress of the cat in the need for castration and sent it to those whom he knew as unconditional authorities - Genetics Dr. A.K.Jude and the famous breeder Brian Stirling Webbu.

Dr. Jude unmistakably seen the potential of unusual mutation. He immediately realized that in front of him a fundamentally new breed of cats, which had no analogues or similarities in the world.

He advised Ennismore to try to consolidate such an unusual sign, for which the Kallibunker is crushing with his mother. Nina Ennismore followed his advice. As a result, two curly kitten and one ordinary appeared as a result of the mating. One of the kittens, cat named Poldhu, will be another link in the development of a new breed.

It is known that direct descendants were exported from the UK to the United States of America. In the future, Cornish Rex had two main development lines: American and European.

The breed of "Rex" ("Royal") was due to the name of the breed of rabbits ("royal rabbits"), which were bred on the Cornish farm and who also had curly wool. Another part of the name is "Cornish" — appeared after 1960, and indicates the place of their appearance — County Cornwall.
Currently, Cornish Rex is a rapidly developing breed, common worldwide. The number of cats of this breed is steadily growing every year, but still the breed of Cornish Rex was and remains elite, has its own faithful fans.
